Perri has always had an interest in the study of Philosophy. She
graduated from Queen’s University in Kingston
Ontario with her degree in
Philosophy in 1985.
Physical fitness and body work have also been a part of Perri’s
life from a very early age. She spent time as a fitness trainer and an aerobics
instructor, as well as participating in dance and many other forms of body work
throughout her life. Yoga naturally blends both of these passions and this is
perhaps why Perri is so passionate about sharing its many gifts through her
teaching.
Her initial teacher training was with the Yoga Institute of
Houston. Subsequently, Perri has had the good fortune of studying with Richard
Miller, Erich Schiffman, Sharon Gannon and David Life, Baron Baptiste, Judith
LAsater, Rodney Yee, Esther Myers, Susi Hutley Aldous, Sean Corne, and many
other equally talented instructors over the years. The foundation of her
teaching is influenced by an Iyengar type attention to detailed alignment.
However, Perri enjoys the vinyasa style of practice and integrates the two in a
unique and creative fashion.
Perri began a committed, personal practice in 1995 and began her
journey to teaching in 1998. The emphasis in her teaching is with body alignment,
breath awareness and mental focus; for where the mind goes, energy flows.
In September 2007 Perri traveled to the home of her teacher
Krishnamacharya. Having followed the teachings of this great master from afar
for many years, spending a five day intensive studying pranayama with Desikachar
in Montreal,
Perri was ready to go to the source. Perri attended a month long intensive in Chennai, India
studying at the Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandarim.
During this program Perri learned the principles of Viniyoga, which
is the application of the tools of yoga to the personal needs of each student.
This training has lead to the development of a program for personal and private
classes.
Perri believes that with attention to alignment we allow the subtle
body, our energy system, to release blockages and free our life force energy.
With focus on each and every breath, we experience ourselves in each pose, and
each part of each pose, in a new way. As the challenge increases in our Asana
practice, as in life, when met with a smooth and steady breath, we move through
the challenge to renewal. When we free the body, and release the mind, we allow
ourselves to let go of all that no longer serves us. In so doing, we
relax, renew, and restore our spirit. Thus, coming to know ourselves in
stillness, we find our truth.
In my personal journey as a yoga practitioner and teacher I will continue to
study, go on courses and retreats. My style may change as I continue to grow.
On occasion the teaching schedule will vary. I hope to encourage you to explore
and practice yoga.
