Yoga Class Dos and Don’ts

Please plan on arriving 5 minutes early. Once we are all settled in to begin, late arrivals will require others to have to move and mats to be re-arranged. If you need to leave early please inform your instructor so you can be provided with an easy exit that won’t disturb others.

Be scent free. Many people have sensitivities to odors and scents. Cooking, Perfumes, Fabric Softeners, Cigarette Smoke all linger on you even if you don’t smell it. Please consider your fellow students and clear yourself of all possible products or garments carrying scents or odors before entering the studio.

While you are waiting: please relax and breathe, get centered, practice a few postures and remember others are probably trying to do the same. Consider this a quiet time for preparation. Conversations should be limited to downstairs or after class.

Don’t eat before class.  Practicing asanas with a stomach trying to digest could result in nausea, cramping and lethargy.

Let your teacher know, about injuries or conditions that might affect your practice.

Set your intention, to help focus your practice and inspire your efforts.

Turn off your cell phones. Yoga is time to take a break from the demands of your life. If you are on call and need to be on vibrate please let your instructor know.

Bring a mat and a towel. Studio mats are intended for those new to yoga and those who occasionally forget. A towel is important these days for obvious health reasons.

Sanitize or wash your hands when you enter the studio.

If you are unwell let your body’s energy be used for healing at home with rest and pranayama. Asanas should not be practiced when we need our energy to heal our sick or injured bodies.

Respect your fellow students. Ours is an intimate environment where we share and support each other through the study of yoga. The above list has been provided for you to assist in creating an environment that is compassionate and considerate of all as we learn and grow together through yoga.

Parking: Whenever possible please feel free to pull into the driveway. Street parking is only on the East side of Livingston until December 31, at which time it changes to the west side until July 1.

Thank you for your ongoing support for our programs.
